At the training camp, when Deku had tried to reach him in spite of his shattered arms, Katsuki had wanted him to stay back, too. Seeing him broken and trying to save him had made him burn and want to keep him at arm’s length. That was something the two of them had in common. Deku always went on and on that Katsuki needed to let himself be helped, but the second someone tried to help Deku and got so much as a paper cut, he lost it. They would both let themselves burn and break before letting someone else hurt themselves for their sakes— whether out of ego or lack of self worth or at the place where those two intersected and became one again.
