Summary
Surely there had been many others in the same circumstances you were in now. All it took was one traumatic event to knock them down and onto a dark, dark path. You'd seen it happen many times before in the orphanage. The defiant ones were always the first to disappear. Off the docks, into the sea, discarded in alleyways. Although you were a beacon to all the orphans around you, you couldn't help that creeping feeling which came over you, this recognition of the inevitable.
But the others didn't have wings, did they?
