Summary
John Watson had accepted long ago that life was what happened while you were busy making other plans. With all the madness that he dealt with since coming back from Afghanistan, he'd pretty much given up on trying to make too many big plans for his future. Then Sherlock fell and suddenly John found himself left alone with nothing.
Now, Sherlock has come back and John finds himself unexpectedly forced into the role of father while he struggles to make sense of his feelings about his eccentric flatmate and his plans for the future. Luckily he's got some well-meaning friends to help him along the way.

Now complete!
The first time it happened was completely by accident.
Post-Reichenbach, John finds a way to hold on to Sherlock after all.
Prepare yourself for 1.) angst 2.) plot 3.) smut 4.) more smut 5.) even more smut 6.) more plot 7.) happy ending. But, in apparently WAY too many chapters. If you're worried about the graphic violence / torture, be aware it's limited to Chapter 30. Probably canon-typical, but I'd rather over-warn than under-warn.
Here's an excerpt, just to give you hope through the angsty first few chapters:
"I am going to seduce you, Sherlock Holmes," he rumbled into Sherlock's ear, smiling as Sherlock's breath grew unsteady again. "Not because you need it, but because you deserve it. We both do." He gave Sherlock a squeeze. "Trust me?"
Sherlock's head lifted, those uncanny pale eyes looking at John with complete sincerity. "I've always trusted you, John."
John felt the last bit of tension leaving his shoulders. "Good." He kissed Sherlock one more time, swift and soft — a promise. "That's good."

Really well done story with a bit of smut and a bit of plot and a whole lot of heart.

Summary
Sherlock is assaulted by an unknown assailant while John is away at a medical conference, leaving him with a severe brain injury. While his intellect and personality are intact, he's lost the use of his right-side limbs and his ability to speak freely. John suddenly finds himself as the main source of support, and possibly a caregiver, to a flatmate who is struggling to do the things he loves most. And Sherlock Holmes has never been the best of patients.

After an unlucky encounter with a couple of homophobes in an alley, John spends some time reconsidering things. Sherlock remains, as per usual, hyperaware of important things (like the amount of mud on a shoe or the quality of any given toiletry product), and half-insensible to irrelevant things (like feelings).

Summary
John Watson had always assumed that he would never play a major role in Moriarty's game. After all, Moriarty was always too concerned with Mycroft and Sherlock Holmes to pay an invalided army doctor any mind. So he is taken by surprise when Moriarty makes a rather shocking demand: one month with John Watson in exchange for Britain's tactical positions and plans in Afghanistan. John has now become a pawn - to be used as both Moriarty and Mycroft please. But what everyone tends to forget is that a pawn also has its own power and should not be taken lightly.
