    A puppet on loosened strings, but strings all the same. Scar knew that's what he was, and he hated it. Sometimes he just wanted to stop, wanted to turn to this crowd, to any crowd that would gather to watch their false bravado, and scream at the top of his lungs that he loved this man and he’d never hurt him and the whole world needed to change. Needed to take away the aches that hurt him as he kept wings folded under an oversized sweater. Ought to demolish how he needed moments curled in the corner of his office, trying to breathe, door locked and blinds drawn, glamor headaches ravaging him.

    Loved him. Loved him so, so, so much.

    So please. Don't take him away before he can even say it.

    The rail cart took another sharp rounding corner and then continued climbing. Katherine had been down for a visit, as she often did nowadays. Shelby adored seeing her. Not only did she always bring flowers or some kind of new sweet for Shelby to try, but she was also just a light in and of herself. Was that a fitting description?
    Shelby wasn’t sure.
    The redstone circuits and dim lighting of the tunnels flashed and flickered, rising and lowering the brightness in sudden bursts.
    And she thought maybe she'd say something more...maybe she'd even open her mouth and explain all the things Katherine had brought her aside from tulips and sweets and moments she wished would last forever. Yup. That's what she'd wanted to do. But when she did open her mouth, a sickening cold sweat burst over her skin. And this was going to have to go very differently after all...
