He laid her in his bed. The sheets were cold, and so was she. He pulled the comforter up to her chin and folded the corners in like she used to do for him. It was a little too warm for a blanket, but he didn’t think she’d mind. He didn’t change his clothes. He didn’t even take off his socks. He just curled up beside her and closed his eyes.
And for the first time in a long time, he didn’t feel afraid of the dark.
