There are many bad things about Rocky—as there are about any person I’ve ever met. And that isn’t even talking about myself. But the problem isn’t that he’s bossy, or swears like a sailor even though I can’t directly translate, or takes up more than half the space on my own gosh darn ship…
…No. The problem is that despite all his flaws, he’s too good.
Rocky is endlessly, painfully good.

My head lifted from where it had been sitting in my hands. My hands didn’t feel real anymore. I stared at the box in front of me. Before I could protest, my shaking limbs dragged my weary body to it, grabbing the small firearm. It was heavier than I anticipated. It was almost unassuming.
Grace is not doing well. Thank God he has Rocky.

Hank limps around the car to join them, his eyes flitting across the scene to scan for his partner. Connor is nowhere to be seen in the gaggle of officers involved in arresting the criminals, and that bothers Hank far more than it should.

Halloween was his favorite holiday. It’s a shame that this year, he had to pick between whether or not this would remain his favorite after a few choice words from his neighbor. Words that cut so deep, he wondered if one day, he would bleed out right there on the steps of his apartment, candy bowl in hand. Pumpkin pajamas bloodied.
