Summary
Disaster strikes the Hail Mary on its way back to Earth. The taumoeba escape their breeding tanks, and make it to the fuel lines. Stranded in space just outside the Tau Ceti system, Dr Ryland Grace can't do anything. He can't go save Rocky, he can't go save Earth. Exhausted, out of options, and distraught, he fills the ship with nitrogen, and takes his final breath.
Next thing he knows, his eyes flutter open in his San Francisco apartment. It's a year before ArcLight touches down on Earth, but he remembers the Petrova Task Force.

She wouldn't let herself be seen like this; Eva Stratt would not let anyone see her less than the composed image she created for herself. She would make herself get up off the cold, hard floor, and she would show up to that meeting as if nothing had happened. She had hated lying her entire life; there had never seemed to be a valid enough reason to do so, and if she didn't want people to know something, she just would say nothing at all. That was always better than not telling the truth. But she would get up, go to that meeting and lie through her teeth, stating Dr Grace came to his senses and agreed to put aboard the Hail Mary, she would continue to explain that for his safety and wellbeing, he agreed to be sedated until it was time for him to be put in a coma. They would all believe her. No one would have a reason not to.
