I perk up at the sound of Rocky's voice. It's not uncommon after almost two years into our trip to Erid to ask random questions about me, or humans, or really earth in general. Especially after an hour or two on his computer.
“Yes Rocky?”

I lived with this hunger long before the Hail Mary. This is nothing new. I’m fine.
Right up until Rocky asks another question.
“When last time you touch other human person skin, question?”
Oh. Oh no. “When I… a few days after I first woke up here.”
Rocky starts to relax for a split second, but then tightens when something occurs to him.
“Grace crewmates dead when you wake up. You said this, statement. You not even know your own name, remember nothing, see dead bodies, confirm?”
I nod, because if I open my mouth I will gag.
“When last time Grace touch ALIVE human person, question.”
I swallow thickly. I don’t answer aloud because I know Rocky can hear the hitch in my breath. My stomach churns with fresh bile. He senses my vital signs tick over into stress patterns and goes very, very still again.
“Grace. When last time, question.”
I clench my jaw so hard my temples ache, and beg him with my eyes to just stop.
“Grace. Please say not when… when Evil Stratt humans put you to sleep.”
I can taste grass.

The intruder enters the kitchen slowly, limbs held low to the ground. Their carapace tilts from side to side as they draw near, fixing their auricles on me.
The xenosuit they have on looks cobbled together, almost experimental. It’s not see-through like my team’s suits are. It wasn’t designed with my light detectors in mind. Instead, it’s dark and opaque, and not at all helping to dispel the impression of a masked burglar in my home.
I’ve never seen that body language in person before, but I understand it on an instinctual level. Eridians are the apex predators of their planet. It’s a hunting stance, and I am the prey.
or: Grace experiences a home invasion on Erid.

Rocky watches dubiously as the strange creature wanders around the ship. It jumps up onto a counter, sniffing at each glass and beaker as it goes past.
“Grace supposed to be running experiment,” he reminds it cautiously. Hopefully none of the abandoned components are volatile.

Summary
When Rocky wakes up after Adrian, he's relieved they're both alive, but immediately knows that something is off with Grace. He's having trouble breathing, sleeping a lot, and spiking fevers. As much as Grace wants to blame it on lung irritation from the ammonia in Rocky's atmosphere, Rocky knows he's downplaying it, and it's not going to work.
However, before he can actually do anything about it, the ship's power goes out. Taumoeba have gotten into the fuel and eaten all the astrophage, leaving them with no choice but to steal from the beetles.
Which are on the outside of the ship.
Which means two EVAs and a lot of lab work for Grace, all while his condition declines from what's quickly turning into a serious health problem. All Rocky can do is make sure he has what he needs and try to take care of him as best he can from afar, hoping they can get to safety before Grace's health is too fragile to recover.Bookmarked by Spacewalrus

Summary
After Rocky and Grace land on Erid, Rocky is finally able to reunite with Adrian (though he has a LOT of anxiety surrounding it). He leaves the science team to tend to Grace in his weakened state and unbeknownst to Rocky, they're not as accommodating as promised.
I read the book so there's some cannon from there, but the chase scene in the movie is very compelling. I also really like how the bio-dome is set up in the movie too- so there's a little bit of both! Also I like to jump around POVs, and I mark the changes with lines like this: ------. Hope you enjoy :)

Having a panic attack is no fun. Getting stabbed through the stomach by a rogue pipe also isn't very fun, either, in Grace's opinion, and yet here he is. Pinned down, freaking out, unable to think or breathe with the past catching up.
Through it all, though, Rocky won't leave his side.

Something was standing above his towel.
No… someone.
They seemed to be observing the towel, claws tapping against the material with what he took as curiosity, pinching it between the appendage.
Was it Rocky? It’d make sense, the Eridian would certainly have something harsh to say about him leaving his stuff laying around. He always had some mean quip to insult his shoddy human memory.
He opened his mouth to defend himself before Rocky could say something snappy, when the figure then moved, stocky legs rising from beneath their carapace and lifting them to their full standing height.
They were tall. Too tall.
That wasn’t Rocky.
OR
Grace receives an unexpected visitor one night in his home on Erid.
