“The circle of life…" Grace mumbled, and his eyes grew wider.
"Like Lion King?" Carl asked, confused with his mouth full of Skittles.
"EXACTLY!" Grace shouted. "The system is out of balance! The stars are plants, and the Astrophage is a Herbivore. What we need is,- Hey, are you eating my Skittles?" Ryland paused. "How many of these did you eat? That's my personal stash; buy your own!"
Carl waved him off, "Herbivore, balance something, keep going."

Summary
”Don’t do it! Don’t do it! You’re murdering me!!” Grace screamed, thrashing beneath the soldiers as they held him down.
“Don’t do it! Don’t do it! Don’t-” Grace wheezed out, tears streaming down his face as the needle dug into his neck. He whined, a pure, animalistic sound of terror and hopelessness.
Tears fell from vacant blue eyes as his eyes closed and the clawed hold he had on the grass loosened.
The truck settled and stopped, but just as the guards reached out to grab Grace and lift him into the truck bed, Grace jerked with a choked cry.
Carl straightened, tensing as the soldiers and doctor began to freak out, wondering how Grace was still conscious.
Carl grimaced at the loud shriek that ripped out of Grace’s throat as his back arched.
And then something ripped.
Slowly, the light dimmed and Carl’s jaw dropped as he took in the four white wings extending from Grace’s back.

Summary
Before formal introductions and full time work assignments could be dished out, all new scientists on Stratt’s Vat were treated to a engaging demonstration by Dimitri’s favorite American Crazy Genius. That he got to sit in on the ensuing explosion was just a bonus to watching Ryland Grace’s mind work. And, if he was extra lucky, Carl would share some of the candy he carried around for Dr. Grace.
Carl isn’t sure what is more interesting about his new role - his Principle using him as a sounding board and lab assistant on Bill Nye level experiments that somehow paved the way into genius applications for the Task Force, or watching a bunch of idiot new scientists quickly change their harsh opinions of the man after he caught them doing something stupid, though it was probably both. - Either way, he and Dimitri would share a sweet treat while enjoying the demolition of the newbies egos via Mild Mannered Middle School Science Teacher.

Summary
"There's no need to negotiate for your safety, Doctor Grace," Stratt says carefully. "I can assure you, after saving the world, you will be looked after."
"Um, no," he says, shaking his head. "I'm not negotiating for my safety." He steps aside. “I’m negotiating for theirs.”
They step into the light of the open doorway; Simon squinting hard against the vivid sun with his hand raised to shield his eyes, and Rocky, who chirps a casual "Hello, humans!" with a wave.
There’s a gasp; someone takes a step backward; one of the military personnel raises their rifle slightly before Stratt makes a sharp gesture for them to stand down.
Grace doesn’t have eyes for them - he only looks at Stratt.
And he decides, then and there, to replace the image of Stratt’s face sending him to his death, full of remorse and sadness, with the one in front of him: utter, complete disbelief.
Grace thinks he'll treasure it forever.or: rocky and grace (+simon) go to earth instead of erid
