I set aside the laptop, rubbing at my eyes with a tired sigh as I get comfortable right there in the little ‘nest’ as Rocky likes to call it. It makes me feel just a little better. I’m drifting off before I even realize.

I need to get it together. I’ve got a long trip ahead of me, and I can’t spend half of it mourning the only true friend I’ve had in years. Or can I? It’s been enough time, right? My body heads to the control panel without a moment to spare; it’s time for my daily ritual. I’ve only got so many Rocky checks left before he’s truly gone. There. He’s still there. Fainter every day, but even seeing the light makes me feel a little warmer.

Maybe he’s got something overdue to give her, too. “Better watch out,” I grin. “Stratt’s on a secret warpath tonight. Anyone holding out on her’s about to get mowed down in front of everyone.”
“She can mow me down anytime,” Hatch says with a little sigh, and did I hear that right?
