Caitlyn’s eyes shifted to her lap, suddenly very interested in her fiddling hands. “What kind of job is it?” she muttered. “You would be working as an assistant for an actress. You would be responsible for her paperwork, managing her schedule, stuff like that. They gave me a brief description of her… She sounds like a handful.”
Caitlyn scoffed, unsurprised by the last comment. She’d always known that actors and actresses were a handful. Most of them being entirely too stuck up to give a shit.
Caitlyn chuckled and let out a forced reply. “At least it’s a she. Might be fun to work with. Besides, it looks good on my resumé. It’s not my usual work, you’re right about that, but I’ve actually been thinking about pushing myself a little out of my comfort zone.” Grayson seemed pleased. Caitlyn could tell, even without looking at her expression.

After breakfast, Lena grabbed a blanket and her spellbook and went outside. Kara was sitting on the porch steps, talking on the phone with Alex. As Lena passed her, she gently stroked Kara's shoulder and then turned as she walked.
Kara looked her straight in the eyes: "Oh yes, sis, the view is simply breathtaking." Lena looked away and grinned to herself. Her friend is clearly flirting with her. She can't be imagining it all.

The Delicate Drop. Or some version of that. Comes from an old root of Demacian that found a Zaun tongue along the way. "It's like your name," Jinx had said. Vi could only laugh, the edge of tipsy making her a little more confused.
"What?"
"Well ya know! Like how Violet sounds all soft but really you're… well, you're a secret softy–"
"Hey, hey, what the fuck?"
The rest of the bar howled with laughter and Vi could do nothing but groan and down another beer.
"No, but I'm serious. People will think it's some rich topside snail shit all dainty but then–BAM!—it's a firehouse."
Delicate like a bomb, they decided.

Her seat neighbor’s smile returns then, her eyes brightening. “Yes, I, uh,” she pauses and bites her lip, her smile still breaking through as her blush deepens. She looks down at the space between their seats as she begins to speak, “I’ll give them to you in exchange for your number.”
The eye contact returns then and Vi feels her face grow red and hot again, it’s probably getting close to the shade of her own hair, but she’s smiling nonetheless. “You got anything to write on?”

Caitlyn and Vi are recent college grads living in New York City in the late nineties, they meet by chance and quickly become enamored with each other. But as their relationship develops, cracks begin to show: neither of them are out to their families and they're both struggling with their identities and their hope that they will get the future that they always dreamed of. When these cracks begin to force them apart, they must face the reality that they may never get everything they wanted. And the question of whether their love is worth the sacrifice.

It feels somehow too revealing, and unavoidably intimate, to explain the overwhelming strength of her sensory response to touch. So no, she doesn’t talk about it.
But talking isn’t the only way to communicate, and one Movie Night with Lena, her body decides to spill the secret whether she wants it to or not.

“Pretend? Like pretending to date? Vi, are you delirious? When was the last time you ate? Is it a concussion? Have you been wearing your proper lacrosse gear?” Caitlyn rubs her temples, massaging them as if her head was on the verge of exploding.
“I’m just saying, we could both get something out of keeping this up.”
“It has to be a concussion,” Caitlyn murmurs under her breath.
Vi rolls her eyes at her dramatics, picking up her bag and throwing the strap over her shoulder before hopping out.
Caitlyn leans her head against the rest behind her, closing her eyes and clenching her long digits around the leather wheel.
Vi leans back down into the car, her hand on the roof as she pokes her head back in. “You don’t have to give me an answer now. Just… think about it.”
She finally shuts the door, leaving Caitlyn to do what she does best.
Caitlyn takes a while to pull away, but as soon as The Last Drop’s door shuts behind Vi, she’s gone.💌💙💘💌

It takes a moment for her to notice it, that someone is humming. Caitlyn approaches the corner that hides the showers, sees steam clouding its way out of the farthest stall to the left. She debates leaving, to just stomach the ride home, home where her mother and father wait for her return. But the thought of running into her mother so soon after today’s match makes her stomach flip and turn into knots. She abandons the idea of going home early altogether and simply settles for sharing the locker room space with someone else.

In the aftermath of Ambessa's attack, Caitlyn is forced to confront the consequences of her actions, Vi has some hard conversations, Jinx is doing her best, and Sevika could really use a drink.
Canon-Divergent Fic from S2E6 onwards, dealing with Vi's trauma and her and Caitlyn's first steps towards reconciliation.
This fic will not bash anyone, but a chunk of it does deal with Caitlyn recognizing how she has failed Vi, and seeking to atone for that. This takes place in concert with Vi acquiring some sense of self-worth, and the end-goal is a healthier and more equal and supportive relationship between the two of them.
Now reworked and expanded with a new edition, which I would suggest everyone read. Not doing anything to this story, but it is no longer the latest and greatest.

The image flashes back from Vi’s memory — Caitlyn lying unconscious on the hospital bed, her head half wrapped with thick bandages, hair still crusted with blood. The tubes in her arms, the smell of disinfectant, the muffled intelligible voices in the background, Vi aching and exhausted sitting by her shoulder to watch her breathe for hours.
Healing is a slow process, inside and out.
