Summary
Like most teenage boys, Merlin's life revolved around Call of Duty and putting a minimal amount of effort into school to get the maximum result, while dedicating his remaining free time to more important pursuits, like getting laid. He was doing pretty well for himself, considering he was kind of funny looking and definitely not popular. Then Arthur Pendragon came long and fucked it all up. (Well, there was also Gwaine. Dammit. He might as well start there.)

Merlin is not sure he is the type to be hanging out with their crowd. Nonetheless, he goes along with them. The fact that the hottest guy he knows, Gwaine, is there may make things a little more interesting.

He used his free hand to straighten his tie before they entered the reception at the fancy hotel bar, where he knew he’d find every single person he worked with.
“Of course it’ll work. Now laugh as if I’ve said something funny,” Gwaine said through his teeth, a fake smile plastered on his face.
OR: Merlin's friends get sick of his never-ending pining over his coworker Arthur and come up with a brilliant plan: If Merlin pretends to be dating his best friend, Gwaine, Arthur will realise he's in love with Merlin, too and they'll live happily ever after. There's no way this could go wrong... right?
