Summary
Arthur sat and stared at the door for a few minutes even after Merlin had left, idly chewing his breakfast, brows furrowed. Something felt off, a vague sense of wrongness, right from when Merlin had come to wake him up.

Smiling at the thought that he'd be able to reach the Cloud Recesses by nightfall, Wei Ying placed Chenqing against his lips, and let the first few notes of his favourite song ring in the air - the song he'd heard Lan Zhan hum for him, but who's name Lan Zhan stubbornly refused to tell him. He had barely been playing for a few minutes when he heard the grass rustling behind him, and a low voice called out.
"Wei Ying."

It wasn’t Alec Lightwood’s fault—
Or at least that’s what he’d tried to tell his parents, anyway.
The party getting out of hand was maybe Isabelle’s fault—
Maybe even Clary’s—
But it definitely wasn’t his and he didn’t understand why he was the only one being made to pay the price.
The whole thing had started off innocent enough. One of the higher-ups at The Institute wanted to have a simple, Hawaiian themed going away party, so naturally, he called upon the most popular party planner in all of Manhattan...
The gig turned out to be one of the most expensive affairs that Alec had been trusted with to date, clocking in at around $50,000. Everything had been beautifully decorated, too, with a luau being recreated out of a large conference room, including free flowing cosmopolitans and professional dancers in shimmying, grass skirts—
And a goddamn fire pit.
God damn that goddamn fire pit.

Later, when Alec’s getting ready for bed, pulling on cotton sweatpants and a slouchy green top, pilled and nubby from repeated washings, he gets a message from Magnus that he’s home, he’s ok, and Alec should get some rest. It’s generic and impersonal, and not like Magnus at all.
Alec’s stomach clenches in reflexive fear.
It’s just nerves, he’s acting crazy.

Summary
Alec stills behind him, the hand curled around Magnus's own going slack. He feels rather than sees Magnus turn around to look at him. It's enough to release the torrent of emotion he's been holding back for weeks and Alec is pulling Magnus towards him by his hand without a second thought and burying his face in Magnus's shoulder as soon as their bodies slot together, perfectly yet imperfectly.
"Magnus," Alec whispers hoarsely, his voice half muffled by the fabric of Magnus's coat. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."
