“Me? I'm just a lackey, maker of beds,” Merlin joked, desperately trying to avoid the question.
“Lackeys can be wise,” Arthur insisted, and Merlin couldn’t help but feel he had been backed up into a corner.
“I…”
Merlin tried to say something, anything, but the words were caught in his mouth.
What if Merlin realized the truth, and decided to be selfish, just this one time, to save the man he cared for with his entire soul? Nobody would lay a finger on Arthur, not if Merlin has anything to say about it.

"You're safe," he said, rubbing the boy's arm gently. "You were caught out in the storm. I think a wolf must have got to you, when I found you, you were wounded and I brought you here.”
"My name's Arthur, this is my home." Arthur smiled at the boy, keeping his tone soft so as to not startle him. "What's your name?"
"Merlin," the boy whispered, his eyes fluttering shut. "My name is Merlin."
