Work Text:

Neuvillette rushed back to the Palais Mermonia after the flooding receded and found Furina packing her things.

“Lady Furina, what are you doing?!”

Furina turned away from him. She felt anger and other unfamiliar emotions she’d been suppressing for centuries threatening to surge.

“Leaving.” She replied.

She wanted to leave everything behind, including all those who stabbed her in the back.

She didn’t want to see her people, who scorned her at the slightest turmoil.

She didn’t want to see Clorinde, the closest thing she had to a friend. She used to read fashion magazines and have tea with her. Clorinde had pledged undying loyalty to her god, only to raise her sword against said god.

And she certainly didn’t want to see Neuvillette. He had looked away when she needed him the most, all on the words of a traveler he’d known for a few months. Neuvillette, her partner for hundreds of years, had betrayed her without a second thought.

And the worst part was, she couldn’t even blame any of them. They didn’t know the truth, and were merely acting on the limited information they had.

“…Lady Furina.”

“What.” She snapped.

“Where are you going?”

She couldn’t take this place anymore. Those pristine walls stared at her the same way they had when she first arrived. For half a millennia, they were her self-imposed prison, and now that she was free, she didn’t want to see them, or anything else, again.

Furina thought for a moment.

“Anywhere but here. I’m tired.” She said simply, like the human she truly was.

She walked out of the room without another word.
