Chuuya couldn't sleep.
This wasn’t an uncommon occurrence. In fact, it was more likely he’d be awake at unholy hours of the night rather than in a peaceful, dreamless slumber. But sleep deprivation makes Chuuya, for lack of a better word, cranky. He would huff in annoyance all day, and his patience would be thinner than before.
Tachihara loved Chuuya, but cranky Chuuya often tested his limits. He was difficult to deal with. Dealing with him in such a state was definitely a sacrifice Tachihara was willing to make for the sake of his relationship, but that doesn't mean he enjoyed it.
So, when he walked into their bedroom after a late-night mission and was met with Chuuya staring at the ceiling with an annoyed glint in his eyes, Tachihara knew what he was up against.
“Still awake, huh?” Tachihara asked. He was met with a grunt. “Want some tea?”
“I want sleep.”
“Would tea help you accomplish that?" Tachihara patted himself on the back for his patience. When he was met with no response, he made his way to the bed and lay down next to Chuuya. He pulled him in closer by his hips before placing a long kiss on his forehead. “This must be pretty frustrating for you.”
“Don't pity me,” Chuuya grumbled, despite wrapping his legs around Tachihara's waist, wanting to be as close as he could.
Tachihara brought a hand up to the crown of Chuuya’s head and brushed his fingers down his hair. When he heard Chuuya's sigh, he asked, “Was that a good sigh or bad?” He halted his fingers.
"Good." Chuuya’s eyes fluttered shut as he spoke. He buried his head into the crook of Tachihara's neck before whispering, “Keep going.”
So Tachihara did. He worked his fingers at Chuuya’s mid-scalp region down to the tips of his hair, playing with the ends. He continued brushing his fingers through it, noticing just how soft his hair was. He twirled it around his fingers before bringing his fingertips to his scalp. He hummed a meaningless tune as Chuuya buried himself further into Tachihara's neck.
“Feeling sleepy, finally?”
“Mhm, shut up,” Chuuya grumbled.
Tachihara chuckled. Chuuya could be a pain, but he was so cute—not that “cute” was what the mafioso was going for.
“Allow yourself to rest,” Tachihara whispered.
He felt as Chuuya’s breathing began to settle into a pattern of soft breaths, which turned into light snores.
