Summary
The inexorable tide creeps in deeper now. He can feel it threading through his veins, dulling sensation, loosening his hold on the physical world. Your presence is the only thing keeping him tethered as Satoru forges on. “Did I… do good?” he croaks quietly, thumb brushing over your knuckles again before his grip tightens with a strength that surprises you both. Desperation lends him one last cruel mercy. Your skin beneath his fingers is cold now; colder than before.
More tears spill down your cheeks, pattering lightly against the bloodied cot. “You did amazing,” you murmur. “The kids are gonna win thanks to you. The future you wanted… it’s still possible.”
A shaky breath leaves him, half laugh, half sob. “Not what I meant, but I’m glad. Meant to ask if I did good as your husband.” Satoru’s throat catches on the word ‘husband’ like it’s hooked on a barb.
Even the strongest fall. In the quiet of Jujutsu High’s medical bay, far away from the gruesome battle tearing Shinjuku asunder, you share your last moments with Satoru, your husband.
