“Oh, angel, you’ve never been quick about anything,” Crowley tries to snort, but then Aziraphale takes a step down and turns to the side, beautiful profile silhouetted there in the dying light of dusk, and the demon sees the round curve of her belly, shining under the angel’s frock and overcoat like the waxing side of the growing moon.
“Crowley, I—you’ll have to forgive me,” Aziraphale suddenly whispers in a fragile, more breakable voice. Her bottom lip trembles just enough for Crowley’s askance expression to wilt and crumple into a frown. “I didn’t know where else to go.”
“What,” the demon sputters, mouth gone dry as ash, “the ever-loving fuck have you gotten yourself into this time?”
“I thought that would have been apparent by now,” Aziraphale says through her teeth, more out of strain than spite. “Work has got me wrapped up in a bit of a pickle, you see, but I suppose that pickle is very insistent on arriving sooner than later.”
Crowley’s jaw hangs in the air. “You’re pregnant.”
“Not for much longer, I’m afraid,” Aziraphale says wearily, cupping a hand beneath the low-hanging heaviness of her swollen belly. “That’s why I came to you.”
