    Summary

Robby knows better than to look away from the board as he says, “I’m going to Nick Bradley’s funeral.”

“Goddammit,” Jack curses again. “You can’t torture yourself enough on the clock, now you’ve gotta do it on your PTO too?”

Robby attends Nick Bradley’s funeral. Jack attends to Robby.

    Summary

Korea, 1951. Captain 'Robby' Robinavitch, draftee and newly minted Chief Surgeon of the 4077th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital, just wants out of the hellhole tent he and Langdon have renamed from the Swamp to the Pitt. A new arrival, who's all hard smiles and too-capable hands, keeps him from falling too far into the dark.

Or, the M*A*S*H alternate universe I couldn't keep out of my head.

    Summary

When Jack is about halfway finished, buttered up with good food, Robby begins, "So, you have another night off..."

    The other man stops mid-bite.

"Do you... want to spend the night? You know, winding down together, maybe watching a movie, sleeping in the same bed."

    "Haven't done that before."

"I know," he says. The food waits patiently underneath him, and he wishes he'd drunk a little more liquid courage, because then he'd at least be better at selling it.

    Or,

For the first time, Michael Robinavitch and Jack Abbot spend the night together. They don't know if they're going to make it work, but the only way to have it start working is to start.

    Summary

Fuck Jack Abbot. Fuck Jack Abbot. Fuck Jack Abbot. Fuck Jack Abbot. Fuck Jack Abbot. Fuck Jack Abbot.

All those nervous habits turn on again all at once, the bouncing the tapping the everything everything everything— He can't fucking breathe.

Fuck you, Jack, fuck you fuck you fuck you.

Why the hell did he have to go and get shot at whenever he's not fucking running around trying to save everyone's lives down here? Too fucking noble, too fucking selfless, too fucking kind for this fucked up world. Robby's nose stings, and he sniffs, blinking hard to keep himself under control.

    Fuck Jack Abbot.

He can't lose anyone else here. He can't lose anyone else.

    Least of all, Jack.

    Fuck.

Dr. Robby returns early from his sabbatical, having avoided telling anyone but Dana. His first day back goes smoothly, until it doesn't, and he is forced to face the impact his leaving had on the man he cares about most.

    Summary

Dr. Michael Robinavitch doesn’t talk much about his childhood or how he came to live with his grandmother when he was a boy. How did a Jewish kid from Squirrel Hill end up doing a residency in emergency medicine at Big Charity, an inner city hospital in a predominantly Black city? Why did he return to Pittsburgh and apprentice himself to Dr. Montgomery Adamson, a Black doctor who started his career working with young Black men in the Hill District to help create the nation’s first EMS service staffed by trained paramedics? Where did his focus on social justice and his affinity for communities of color come from? "L'dor V'dor" is a character study that follows Dr. Robby's evolution from a precocious five-year-old to emergency room physician.
