Summary
Grace lives a long and happy life on Erid with his cluster-members Rocky and Adrian, until he passes at the age of 95. He wakes up to find himself back in his San Francisco apartment and has to face navigating the most difficult part of his life in a language he hasn't spoken in 60 years.
OR; After finding himself in the past, Ryland Grace has to try his best to keep his head down and figure out what he wants to do with his second try at solving the Astrophage problem and returning to his family. Summary
In an alternate universe, the taumoeba didn't become immune to xenonite. Ryland Grace returns to Earth, and Rocky to Erid. Grace finds it difficult to re-adjust to a life on a planet he doesn't recognize, filled with people who have already grieved his passing. And it doesn't help that his internal dialogue has manifested itself as his alien best friend, who he will never see again.
