Summary
Soul-marks are everything in the magical world; you can only ever marry or date your soulmate, every person has exactly one mark and match, and even house-elves are slaves because of their lack of marks. The Killing Curse, Unforgivable because it erases the soul’s mark as well as killing the body, has no known survivors. Until it does, and Harry Potter goes to Hogwarts bereft of his mark, the subject of furious debate as to whether his presence dirties the school or if it should be allowed at all. As Harry learns more and more about the underpinnings of the magical world, his fury grows, and he allies with other outcasts to bring down the corrupt system.

Instead of becoming Voldemort, Tom Riddle established a school of “secondary importance” for Muggleborns, half-bloods, and Squibs. Since the school frees Hogwarts to continue drifting more towards the purebloods’ whims and wishes, they haven’t raised any large fuss. Besides, everyone knows that half-bloods and Muggleborns don’t have any real power. Just look at Riddle, who had ambitions that outpaced his magical strength. The wind drops, suddenly, and the swirls of billowing snow settle between them slowly. Arthur squints as the figure becomes more defined, familiar but… not.
Wrong.
John Marston stands at the top of the crest of the mountain covered in snow and blood. There’s a dead wolf pelt with the head still attached wrapped around his neck and shoulders and he drags two more by the tail behind him. Four violent gashes cut through his cheek and up over his nose.
It’s hard to tell how much of the blood is his and how much is from the wolves.
“The hell, Marston?! You kill those with your bare hands?” Javier demands, looking shocked.
John makes a face that might be intended to be a grin but it’s all teeth. It makes the cuts on his face weep and Arthur feels himself wince in sympathy. Those must be painful.
“I had a knife.”

John closes his eyes on Beechers Hope and opens them to teeth at his throat.
