Fiddleford reaches up, tracing the curve of his cheekbone. And it only takes his touch for Stan to fall apart again, to tremble like a newborn calf.

So Grady’s new name was Mr. Numbers. Not that he told him that, but Wrench could lip-read others talking to him.
Apart from that brief moment during their first encounter, Wrench didn’t really think of him as Grady, as he didn’t really think of himself as Wes in a long time. It was strange to have a figure of his past life there with him. It felt like that first seconds after you got shot, when you try to convince yourself that if you avoid looking at it, the pain will not come - it still does, eventually; delusions never last that long.
Mr Wrench knew that Mr. Numbers felt the same way because of that awkward silence that had nothing to do with the hardship of having a spoken conversation. -
