Carls life was perfect, until it wasn't. With his dad in a coma and his mom turning to drinking to deal with her never-ending mid-life crisis and having a new baby, he's forced to struggle through his senior year while balancing a job at the local bar with his best friend Enid and trying to get into college. Until he pisses off two men who his dad had previously put behind bars, which just leads to him catching the eye of the towns newest resident. Carl falls into a Negan rabbit hole when he meets his dying wife at the hospital while visiting Rick.

When Rick returned, it was nothing like Negan had envisioned. To be fair, he wasn’t surprised that Rick was alive. He’d always known on some level.
Of course, his judgment could be clouded by the fact that he was married to the guy’s very hopeful son who just never gives up.

Summary
Negan embodied the missing puzzle piece of Carl’s high school life; kindness, approachability, companionship, and the wisdom of someone who wanted the best for Carl.
