Summary
Footballers are interesting, aren't they? These men and women who through their skills with the ball transcend what makes them human. The fame, the glory, the red carpets, endorsement deals, awards of gold and silver and the money, oh the sweet, sweet money. Everything they do feels so magical, so perfect, they make the impossible possible, they fight losing battles and pull the win in the dying minutes of a game. Truly, heroes, if not gods for the eye of the common man.
This is not a story about the heroes of the field, this is the story of men and women, mortals, flawed, ignorant, hateful, if not malicious. Dark days, rainy days, painful days. Times when life feels impossible to handle, you are dying within, you want to just break and forget it all, but you put on a smile and go out in the field, to the screaming crowds, facing all the chants and the abuse and the bottles thrown at you, and still you smile.
Now take all of this complicated, ugly, and hurtful issues, add them with a football club that is being held together by tape and the power of love, compress them all up into the shape of a ball and give to a boy to bear. Now, he must face a strange new reality that will only grow more and more bizarre.
