"A lot of times the ‘markings’ were common, simple things you said to strangers all the time. 'Excuse me'; 'thank you'; 'hello'. Some got extremely romantic things like 'it’s you isn’t it? I’ve been waiting for you' or 'Wow you’re really pretty'. And they were always the first words their soulmate would ever say to them.

Of course, having 'You are the fucking worst kind of person in the world' tattooed down your side, didn’t bode well. How fucked up was Stiles Stilinski that even his fucking Soulmate hated him? High School had been a special kind of hell when all the kids learned what his tattoo said—despite his best efforts to keep it a secret."

Over the centuries, Hob had dreamt plenty of dreams about his friend from the tavern. All good dreams, of course.

    Very good dreams.

Usually not dreams that featured either of them wearing very much clothing.

But until the talking bird told him otherwise, he hadn't considered that those dreams might be real.

(Featuring: a live Jessamy, Hob rescuing Dream from the fishbowl, a mess to clean and a happy ending.)

Tsunade walked around the desk and sat directly next to Iruka, turning both of their chairs with a casually powerful grasp. In the end they were facing each other, not the desk. He tried and failed to hold her gaze. She reached out and tipped his chin up, forcing him to look at her again. Another hit landed. This time it came from Iruka's left. It felt like it must have shattered bone, ribs grinding against each other in his chest, and Iruka bit his tongue almost until it bled to keep from crying out.

“Tell me, Iruka-sensei,” Tsunade said. “How long, exactly, have you been feeling Hatake Kakashi’s emotions?"

"So, you're going to ruin your niece's baby shower with flowers in the wrong color?" the florist, Stiles, asks when they reach the counter. He pulls out a binder and starts flipping through it.

"Not ruin. Mildly inconvenience," Peter says.

"Right, messing with a hormonal pregnant woman seems like a great plan."

"To be fair, her fiance and the father of her baby is my ex-boyfriend," Peter says. "And we weren't broken up when they started 'dating'."

Stiles looks up at him in surprise. "And you're still getting her flowers?" he asks.

"It's under duress, I assure you," Peter says. He absolutely wouldn't be here if his alpha hadn't ordered it.

"Well, shit, yeah, let's get you some purple revenge flowers," Stiles says.

"You really have to go to this wedding?" Stiles asks, eyes wide. "Of your ex and your niece?"

"Yes," Peter says with a sigh. "Pack politics deem it necessary, unfortunately."

"Hell yes, I'll go. A. You're not going through that alone. B. I can mock her shitty flowers. C. Dude, we can fuck with her so much," Stiles says, eyes glinting. "How do you feel about defiling me in the coat closet?"

"Always favorably," Peter says. "I can defile you on this couch if you'd like a preview."

    Stiles grins wickedly.

"I'll never say no to that."

"Holy crap!  Why the hell did you lie to incredibly powerful magical beings with trust issues?  How was that Plan A?"

Derek says, "We're not arguing about this, it's already done."

"Like hell we're not fighting about this," Stiles says, indignant.  "What were you thinking?"

"I was thinking it was worth the risk if it kept you alive!  And it worked, so drop it."

"You had no idea that it was going to work!" Stiles throws his hands up.  Why is Derek the most frustrating werewolf in the history of ever, why is Stiles even helping him, why is this his life?  "Why did they even believe you in the first place?"

Derek says, "You reeked of me," which is unfair.  Stiles only smelled because he'd gotten covered in Derek's bodily fluids trying to staunch the bleeding.

“Isaac, Boyd," Derek says, pointing, "On me. Erica, stay here and watch Stiles."

What? Ok, that is a completely new and bizarre plan right there. Why waste super-strength on killing the bad guy when you can dispatch a werewolf to babysit?

Stiles, unable to really stop himself, says, "No way-"

"Do. Not. Argue." Derek says in his alpha voice. Whoa.

Erica, who'd been visibly itching for a fight when she arrived, deflates. She looks at Stiles, their eyes meet and Stiles can see the matching look of confusion on her face. She mouths, Seriously? and Stiles shrugs, hands up.

"If we're not back in two hours," Derek says, "Move out of California."

And then they're gone, leaving Stiles alone with Erica on the edge of the preserve.

    Yet another BDSM-AU.

NOTE: Due to RL this work was originally on hiatus until May 2020, but then there was a global pandemic and personal tragedy. I still have tons of notes to bring this to a close, but am behind where I'd hoped to be before COVID. The last chapter here isn't a cliff-hanger, and even has a bit of a resolution, but there is still story to be told. I'm not sure when I'll be able to write and post again. My new plan is not to post anything more until the whole bloody fic is DONE. To which end, cheer leading welcome and patience appreciated! :)

He probably would have become one of the top twenty businessmen in America, but he’s indisputably the finest engineer in the world, likely the best of an entire generation. [smiling] Tony and I are a team. We have very complementary skills. I can run Stark Industries, but if I had to design our products we’d be lost.

    Forbes: You’re too modest.

Potts: I’m never modest. Modesty encourages people to underestimate you. Honesty is far better.

Forbes: Speaking of honesty, there’s something I’d like to address: Stark Industries’ hiring practices. There is a lot of speculation about reverse discrimination given your unusual employee demographics--the number of submissives and switches at your company. Would you care to comment?

Potts [sharply] I’m happy to comment. [She takes a sip of water and continues, her smile as genial as ever but her tone a little cold.] I’ll comment, but I’d also like to point out that I have addressed this in nearly every interview I have ever given as CEO. The answer hasn’t changed. Reverse discrimination is simply discrimination. Stark Industries does not now and never has operated on a quota system for so-called diversity hires.

Don’t get me wrong-- ideologically I am a committed liberationist. One only needs to spend about twenty seconds in the presence of Tony Stark to realize how utterly wrong orientationist stereotypes are; a Stark Industries—an America—without Tony Stark, Engineer is unimaginable. He’s given us the StarkSafe, pioneered personal computers, and developed the first smart phone. Tony was admitted to MIT before he presented; they never had a chance to discriminate against him for his orientation in admissions, though of course we can’t know for sure if they would have consciously or unconsciously. That is how we operate at Stark Industries. All initial applications are made anonymously, without names, genders, or orientations attached to them. This ensures that no bias—conscious or unconscious—about orientation, gender, or assumed ethnicity can influence that first impression. Compared to our competitors, we have 33% more submissive employees, 42% more switch employees, and 27% more employees who are people of color historically excluded the industry. That's not because we discriminate, but because everyone else does.

Let me be clear. As I said, I am absolutely committed to equality; Stark Industries’ doesn’t perform that commitment through patronizing tokenism. We’re the leaders in every field we engage in and command the largest market share of all our markets. We don’t have diverse hiring practices because we already dominate the field and can ‘afford to’; we dominate the market because of our diversity. Get a bunch of straight, white, male Ivy League Doms together in a room to problem solve and, coming from similar backgrounds, they are likely to look at things with similar perspectives. There’s the danger of sliding towards groupthink. Eliminating opportunities for discrimination of all sorts in the hiring process gives us a greater diversity of talents to draw on. I’m first and foremost a CEO and the math is simple: diversity returns the highest dividends

Being a sub isn’t the worst thing in the world. Being a sub who doesn’t like pain, well. That’s just weird. A sub’s sole responsibility in life is to be anything and everything a dom wants, an open canvas for a dom’s brush, malleable and sweet. Obie taught him that, and that fear ultimately tears him and Pepper apart. So Tony hides his dirty secret and doesn’t sub for anyone now. But that doesn’t stop him from wanting.

    Ch 7
    “BONES!” Jim shrieks

“What,” comes Bones’s muffled (but distinctly irritable) response from the bathroom.

“I’ve been attacked by a monster!” he yells. “It’s – it’s coming toward me – aaaghhh it’s coming toward me, KILL IT, BONES! Kill it dead!”

There’s a pause, and then, “Are you talking about a spider?!”

“That’s no spider, that’s a friggin’ SPACE STATION, and I need you to KILL IT!”

So, grumbling and groaning, Bones emerges from the bathroom, clearly ready to give Jim hell for being a wuss, when he actually sees the thing.

“Uh,” says Bones. “Maybe we should just leave it be.”

“You’re afraid of it!” Jim realizes, pointing at him accusingly.

    “Am not,” says Bones.

    “Are too!”

“Says you, from on top of the couch!”

Jim pouts. “Fine, maybe it…it isn’t the most appealing creature to my sense of aesthetics.” Bones snorts.

“So how are we goin’ to get rid of the beast? You can’t lasso a bull with a shoelace.”

They look at each other, then yell, “GAILAAAA!”

“What’s the fire?” she asks, coming out from the kitchen with a sandwich.

“It’s ‘where’s the fire,’” says Jim. “And you need to kill that thing before it kills us!”

“Huh,” says Gaila, finally seeing it. She puts down the sandwich and gently picks up the spider in her palm.

“What kind of woman are you?!” Jim shrieks from a safe distance.

“The kind who embraces all life,” she says, smiling at the spider like it’s her best friend. “All the best on your journey, little drifter,” she tells it.

Then she turns and takes it outside, leaving Jim and Bones staring after her.

“So not only are we sissies, we’re also, just, fundamentally bad people,” Jim translates.

“Yeah, that’s what I heard too,” says Bones.

    There’s a pause.

    “Spiders are ewwy, Bones.”

    Ch 8
Bones eyeballs him. “What’s wrong with you?”

    …Or not.

"It’s just," Jim says. "Do you ever get the feeling that everything we perceive is only our own wishful constructs of reality, and then start thinking that maybe there’s no point in trying to find truth, because how can essentially subjective human beings find a truth which is by necessity objective, and anyway even if truth were real and accessible, do you even want it? and then you realize that each of our very existences is built upon this shaking and fragile foundation of assumptions that may or may not hold up in ten or fifteen years, let alone at the end of our lives, and that after all is said and done, all of our efforts might be nothing but a shout into the void?"

“No,” says Bones. “Now eat your vegetables.”

    “Okay,” says Jim.

    “Mh!” He mumbled.

The sheer, white fins of a large white tail hit the bottom front of the desk over and over to the pulses Shikamaru sent through the medium of his hips.

Then, he felt something shoot into his mouth. It was no longer a cold tongue, it had cups, it was slippery. He distanced himself a bit and found a dark blue tentacle connecting their throats and finally he jumped back with a hoarse shout. The thick, white tail lifted to shower the captain in see-through tail fins. She still eyed him, infatuated with everything the captain had demonstrated thus far.
