Summary
Melancholy has a distinct color.
It’s blue, but not a rich blue of that of the deep sea. It’s the color of ice blowing off a glacier at dusk, pale and haunting. It morphs into deep blacks when it touches your fingertips and it swarms around a person like a thick fog, threatening to suffocate whomever its wrapped itself around.
Clarke is familiar. She’s familiar because its become a part of her morning routine: take a shower, apply light mascara, get dressed, and watch as the color of melancholy snakes around her hair, tinting the sharp blonde.
Melancholy has a distinct color, but even more so, it hugs you like a friend and betrays you like an enemy.

After tragedy alters Clarke’s outlook on life, she turns her back on everything set out before her: medical school, a life of privilege, and most importantly, family. When she rents a room in The Ark – a brewery converted into living spaces – she’s forced out of her comfort zone when surrounded by the tenants who live there.
Particularly a curly-haired brunette with a tendency to combine insults with historical references, intentionally keep her awake, and even most frustrating, make her not stop thinking about him.

She tests positive for the Homicidal Tendency Syndrome gene, also known as the kill gene. Clarke is plucked from her comfortable life and placed into a school with people just like her - carriers, delinquents.
When she meets Bellamy Blake there, he looks like everything they say HTS carriers are. A monster, a criminal. Yet, he’s the one who protects her.
Clarke thinks existing in this school is the hardest thing they’ll have to do, but as the outside world falls into chaos, she soon learns that things can always get worse. At Mount Weather training camp, they’re made perform certain tasks that make them question who they are - make them wonder if they really are as evil as the world accuses them of being.
At least she has Bellamy. Clarke isn’t sure how they are supposed to be these violent monsters when they can do something so human, like fall in love with one another.

Summary
A crowd had gathered around a break in the perimeter surrounding Polis. He found Echo, Monty and Harper.
“What happened?” Bellamy asked with confusion plastered on his face.
They did not answer or turn to face him but continued to look of paralysed onto the vast planes of the desert. He followed their gaze. He saw nothing but a black mound about 100 metres away from him. This person was small and petite yet you could tell was as strong as anyone twice their size. It was only when he got a glimpse of their hair, or should he say her hair, did all the blood drained from his body. Stands on pink intertwined beautifully with her strong blond.
As Clarke is distancing herself from Bellamy, an incident occurs where in which she become injured. Follows the fall out of that injury and how Bellamy deals with it.

He steps forward, now standing so close to the girl his men captured that he has to look down to look into her eyes. To his surprise she doesn’t try to step back but instead faces him with a rage in her eyes. “I know you can understand me, you know?”
The girl, he has to give her credit for it, still doesn’t respond. She does swallow, the challenge in her eyes dampening slightly. Bellamy huffs out a breath, somewhat pleased, and turns around in order to leave.
“Clarke.” He hears the girl say from behind him. “My name's Clarke.”

Most people would want to celebrate their twenty first birthday at a bar. Or a club. Or maybe even just at Bahama Breeze, where they can order some fruity drink and feel cool about it. That’s what most people would do.
But, much to Clarke Griffin’s dismay, Raven Reyes is not “most people.”
That’s why she finds herself listening to some drawling teenager probably making minimum wage list off the rules for laser tag while Raven bounces excitedly next to her and some ridiculously attractive guy smirks at her.
