In Jesper’s time in Ketterdam, he’d been shot, stabbed, even a few concussions here and there. Even then, no pain would ever compare to this. The humiliating defeat of stumbling home with his pockets empty and mind hazy.
As soon as the steps to the Van Eck mansion came into view a sinking feeling found its way in Jesper’s stomach. It was late, and Wylan was no doubt waiting for him. He’d have to go in and face the disappointment.
