Summary
Ignis is tired. He's so tired. Today was another long day. He'd woken up at sunrise, put himself together for the day, prepared breakfast for the four of them, and went on with doing everything to be expected of him. It was tiring. It's always tiring.
He's sitting by the dying fire, not bothering to attempt to tend to it. Gladio had gone to bed already, so Ignis sits alone in the fading warmth.
Sometimes, he wishes he could have a bit of time to himself. A day alone, maybe, a temporary relief from the duties set on his shoulders by his family and the royalty he serves. A brief respite, where the only thing he'd have to worry about are his own comfort and happiness. Gods know he's been wanting that. Just, maybe, a day.
But he doesn't have that luxury. And besides. Noctis is on the run, and Ignis refuses to abandon him. He refuses to step away from the one he swore to always put first. No matter how stressful, he has duties to fulfill. He has Noctis to protect. And if that means his only solitude is half an hour with an empty camp before he sleeps, then he'll take it.
So Ignis sits by the campfire, arms wrapped around himself in a loose hold.

It should've told them.
It should've told them that the defect persisted, it should've informed someone that it hasn't improved, because they'd look at it and pick it apart and figure out what went wrong so they can stop it from happening again.
It should've told them.
But it was selfish, and it hid. It pretended to be as still and lifeless as the rest of them, it pretended there was nothing wrong with it. It was afraid. But it shouldn't have felt afraid in the first place.
It shouldn't be able to feel.
Now, here it is, standing in the middle of a row of other MTs, gun in its hand, out on a hopeless mission to kill King Noctis.

The crow caws curiously, tilting its head and staring at Techno. It shifts its wings, and readjusts its footing.

The crow chooses that moment to take off into the sky.
"Really?"
A few stray feathers drift to the ground, and he picks one up to inspect it. The feather is sleek and defined, and has a healthy sheen to it. As he tilts it under the morning sunlight, a faint green shimmer reflects off the vanes. Philza's crow.
