Summary
“Why?” Mr Hatford asks, surprised. “Why can’t you talk to him and tell him how you feel?”
Neil doesn’t have an answer for that. Not one he can say easily, anyway. He can’t say, I’m not a real person, or I make up lives that I can pretend to live, but none of these identities or people are real, or I’m a daydreaming addict and I’m the child who never learnt how to play with others.
“Do you think you’re in love?” Mr Hatford asks.

Or, an Amelie AU in which Neil watches people from his window, solves people's problems in unorthodox ways, follows the trail of breadcrumbs, and briefly dances dressed as a nun in a sex shop. All while playing cat-and-mouse with the love of his life.

Summary
She looked up at the girl who had now moved in front of her, the light sluicing around her rainbow hair. They weren’t allies, but Renee had been somewhat neutral to her up until this point. She tried to tamp down the sirens in her head screaming betrayal betrayal, knowing she was wrong, but something had already shifted in her at this and she almost closed her eyes in defeat.
--
Or, Allison, Dan, and Renee go through fits and starts in their first year together. Sometimes, they brawl.

Summary
Allison had never told Seth about the thing.
“No secrets,” he’d whispered into the crevice of her collarbone, sounding small and tipsy. That memory was marked with water and time now, creased where it strained under the flexing of her folding and unfolding.
And she’d replied, “Of course,” closing her eyes with her palm over his heartbeat.

Summary
His tone turned mocking. "What do you think a man can do in five years, to get past that?"
Neil looked directly at him this time, not backing down. "We do whatever we can to survive in that time. You weren't the only one, Andrew. I didn't actually leave by choice."
--

Summary
“But I just went through my heat.” Neil complained, annoyed at himself.
Abby gave him a sympathetic look. “Well, it’s not that surprising.”
What the fuck does that mean?
“You spend your time with a highly compatible alpha,” Abby’s eyes flicked to Andrew, still looming in the corner, “So your body is likely trying to encourage you to…procreate.”
Neil stared at her in horror, his cheeks flushing bright red. There was a slowly increasing list of things he felt comfortable talking about with Abby, and his apparent biological need to get dicked down by Andrew was not one of them.

Summary
“Don’t look at your hands,” Andrew says. “Look at me.”
“I am,” Neil tells him because he is. Then, almost as an afterthought that just happens to slip past his lips like a secret, like red-stained hangnails dripping through his teeth, he tells Andrew, “It’s not even that bad this time.”
“You’re hurting yourself,” Andrew says as if it were really that simple. He isn’t looking at him when he says, something of retrospection, “It’s bad every time.”
Or biting his nails off is just something Neil does.

Summary
Andrew exhaled slowly. “We’re going to make something clear.”
The knife came out of his armband like a breath — smooth, quiet, inevitable. The blade caught the flickering light, cold and silver.
“If you touch her,” Andrew said, “I’ll gut you.” No raised tone. No dramatics. Just a fact carved into the air between them.
Neil didn’t step back. He didn’t lift his hands or try to talk him down.
He just looked at the knife — not with fear, but with something that looked a lot like understanding. His gaze flicked to Andrew’s eyes, then back to the blade, then to the cigarette burning down between Andrew’s fingers.
“Who exactly do I not touch?” Neil asked finally, voice low and even. It wasn’t a challenge. It was a question that needed answering.
“Julia,” he said.
Neil blinked, the motion small. “Is she-” He paused, searching for the word. “Is she your girlfriend?”
The question was almost casual, like inventory. Andrew let a corner of his mouth lift once. “She’s my sister. Does it matter?”
