Queen Ygraine asks the question gently, but Arthur knows better than to mistake gentleness for mercy.
He has come to ask permission to formally court Merlin: son of Balinor, Chief Dragonlord of Albion, and Hunith, Ygraine’s trusted lady-in-waiting. It should be simple. It is not.
Because Merlin is not only the man Arthur loves. He is Dragonkind’s future, Dafyd’s blood, Druid-touched magic, and a sovereignty older than Pendragon law.
In a Camelot where Ygraine survived and magic returned to public life, Albion has rebuilt itself around a fragile peace between Crown, Dragonkind, the Old Religion, and the old threshold kingdoms. But restoration is not the same as healing.
As Arthur and Merlin’s courtship becomes public, Ascetir’s roots begin to stir, Dafyd’s tidal arches hum at the wrong tide, Avalon’s mists remember what Camelot forgot, and old roads bend toward the Forest of Balor and the Great Stones of Nemeton.
Something wounded beneath Albion has begun to ask for witness.
Or: Ygraine lives, Arthur loves Merlin openly, and Albion discovers that love is not weakness, possession, or conquest — but covenant.

Summary

No, really.
Oh, and apparently his soulmate is a god.
