She was amazed how fast her inhibitions had sublimated and blown off like vamp dust in a strong westerly. She couldn’t count on the fingers of both hands the times she’d fought with him, but it had never gotten her blood up the way it had when he’d struck her in the alley. It had started with fury and surprise—he hadn’t been able to hit her since the Initiative—but the battle lust had transitioned smoothly into real lust as they'd played through their usual pageant of violence.
Buffy had been knocked breathless not by how wrong it was or how they’d crashed from the upper floor to the basement, but by the sheer force of how ready she’d been to bare her tender places to him after five years of antipathy.
