Summary
Ella Ashmore has begun her reign as queen, advised by Tadius. The people love her, but the nobles have started to chafe under a rule more stringent than the old king's. As Ella and Tadius navigate life at court, they find themselves increasingly attracted to each other, but years of service to the repugnant prince have left Tadius with serious hang-ups around sex and love, which he will have to overcome if they ever want to be together.
Forces from outside also threaten the budding romance. The Church of the Nine Good Gods has sent an envoy to Ella's court, supposedly to bless Ashmore and remove any taint of witchcraft, but the Church has other, darker purposes in mind.
