Summary
“Which is why, I was telling dad he should just ask you.” Chris finishes his story, looking over at Eddie with raised eyebrows before turning back to look at Buck.
“Ask me what?” He asks, looking at Eddie and raising an eyebrow in question.
Eddie eventually groans and tosses his napkin on top of his now empty plate. “Jesse’s mom was chaperoning the dance on Friday. And now that she’s got two kids with broken bones at home, she had to back out. PTA said we were right at the number of chaperones required per kid.”
OR
Christopher's Valentine's Day dance needs an extra chaperone, so Buck steps in. Fluff ensues.

Summary
They’ve got a routine now, on Eddie’s gray days. All Eddie has to do is send a less than one word text - a one emoji text to be exact - when Eddie knows it’s going to be A Day, capital ‘A’, capital ‘D’. No matter what plans Buck had that day, they are immediately canceled so that Eddie has an Evan Buckley at his door within a few hours.
OR
Eddie still struggles from time to time. A 5+1 fic on how his family helps him through it, and how Eddie deals with the aftermath of a gray day himself.

Summary
“Three minutes and seventeen seconds,” Buck heard Eddie correct, but it sounded almost like his partner was underwater, a weird emptiness to his voice. He turned towards Eddie quickly before glancing back down at the cards on the table.
“Did you see anything?” Mehta questioned, not picking up on the growing discomfort about the topic at hand like Eddie and Rosen were next to him. “Bright light?”
“Uh, well I saw that while I was still on the ladder.”

Summary
He knows he was at the controls. He knows that there’s something he’s missing here. He realizes what it is as his eyes follow the extension of the ladder up and over. Sees it hanging on by a - thankfully - double and triple check secured harness.
OR
Eddie's thoughts while climbing the ladder to reach Buck, the ambulance ride that follows, and immediately after Buck arrives at the hospital.

Summary
He couldn't tear his eyes away from his phone. The more he rewatched the videos of Ilya and the more he scrolled, the more he realized he was truly, deeply fucked.
It was quickly becoming undeniable that the Jane he'd been talking about was Shane. He was feeling these emotions because of Shane which was… confounding, to say the least. Shane didn't quite know how he was supposed to feel about this. There wasn't exactly a manual for how to deal with your ex-something very publicly dedicating sad, terrible karaoke to you. Something like that would probably have a really niche customer base.
Or, videos of Ilya doing drunk karaoke at the Boston Bears 2016 Christmas party go viral. Shane... handles it.

Summary
"Can I try something?"
"Yeah, sure, g-go ahead, man." Buck cringes, and even that is adorable.
"Close your eyes."
"E-Eddie," Buck croaks helplessly.
"I'm not gonna bite, Buckley. Trust me?"
Buck closes his eyes. Squeezes them shut, really.
Eddie tugs his face into the curve of Buck's shoulder before he can lose the nerve, Buck's pulse fluttering wildly against the tip of Eddie's nose.
Buck is struggling after the events in New Mexico. Eddie decides to move in with him about it.

Summary
Eddie’s changed back into his civilian clothes and is just finishing tightening the laces on his boots when Chimney comes into the locker room, his face uncharacteristically serious.
“Hey guys, can you all hang back a minute? I need to talk to you about something,” he says, pulling the door closed behind him.
Hen looks up from her phone, glancing around at Eddie, Ravi, and Harry. “Sure, Cap. Should we wait for Buck?”
Chim sighs and shakes his head. “It’s…it’s about Buck.”

Summary
“You don’t have to,” Buck says quickly. “You could just leave it. Don’t look.”
Eddie glances up at him, and they both know without saying it that he isn’t going to let this go.
There’s no way he can look away now, not after seeing the way Buck reacted.
“Or maybe just not now,” Buck says softly, stepping closer, his hand settling gently over the screen like he can shield Eddie from what’s on it. “Maybe leave it for now. You’re not… Eddie, you’re not doing well right now. I’ve been so worried about you and this—” his voice catches, “—you… Eddie, please don’t. Just leave it.”
It stings to hear the worry out loud, even if he knew it was there.
He wants to do what Buck says, he wants to trust his friend and give him what he’s asking.
Buck never asks for anything.
Eddie moves Buck’s hand aside gently, giving it a brief squeeze. “Can’t do that, Buck.”
Or; After Christopher leaves for El Paso, Buck decides that he and Eddie should trace their family trees to keep Eddie’s mind occupied elsewhere. The results lead Eddie to face a family secret.

Summary
Shane’s thoughts feel dangerous. Or - not dangerous, exactly, but really fucking scary. The kind of thoughts that used to have him bolting upright in the middle of the night, his skin drenched with cold sweat at the mere prospect of such a thing.
But now…now Shane thinks it’s time.
“I think this is my last season,” he whispers, voice faltering over the words he’s never said aloud before.
