Summary
"Crap!" the food truck worker shrieks in alarm. "Don't hurt him, Superman, he's just a kid!"
Clark . . . pauses, then looks up from the kid that he is currently pinning into the street as said kid struggles underneath him.
"'Hurt him'?" he asks in reflexive confusion, and then realizes how batting a teenager around like a person-shaped cat toy and pinning him to the street hard enough to crack it probably actually looks to an outside observer.
. . . um.
Whoops.
"Um," he starts awkwardly, and then the kid slips his pin while he's distracted and throws his arms around his neck with a gleeful laugh and a bright grin.
"Dad!" he crows triumphantly, and hugs Clark harder than literally anyone has ever hugged him before.

Summary
Someone had to stay and do the work of Batman. Batman needed a Robin, even if that Batman was Dick now. Maybe especially because it was Dick. Tim needed to go, needed to get whatever this was out of his system, and they couldn’t let him do it alone in this state. Damian needed a sense of purpose, something to give him an assurance of his place here when it had been so rattled with Bruce's loss.
It made sense, Dick and Damian in Gotham, Jason with Tim. The only reasonable solution, and none of them were happy with it.
(Or: Tim’s quest to prove Bruce is alive plays out differently when the family starts off in a better place with each other. Tim does still lose his spleen, though. That is definitely a thing that happens.)

"Yeah," he said. The word came out small.
"Yeah what?" Tim said. Not sharp. Just bringing him to it.
Something in Kon's chest unknotted by a single degree. The shape of the exchange was old and known and his. He didn't have to invent it. He didn't have to be clever or okay or load-bearing. There was a track and he could put himself on it and let it carry him.
"Yes, sir," he said.
"Good boy," Tim said.
The word landed in the middle of him like a hand on the back of the neck. He felt his shoulders come down off his ears by a measurable amount. Good. It wasn't even praise, not really, it was just a flag planted in the ground— you are here, you did the thing, the thing was right— and his body believed it the way it would not believe anything he tried to tell it himself. That was the trade. He could not give himself an inch. He'd give Tim a mile and not notice his feet leaving the ground.

Hal was angry about many things today: an alien invasion happening while breakfast-in-bed rituals were being enjoyed, Bruce knowing his Lantern ring's size like the freak that he is, and the fact that all of this was happening while he was wearing pink flannel pajamas under his uniform, and his breath still smelled like barely-10-second mouthwash about 2-hours into the fighting and the rescuing.

OR:With Batman gone, Gotham is falling apart. But Jason has bigger problems. Like this kid who just got dumped on his doorstep due to a case of mistaken identity. What was his name again? Oh yeah. Duke Thomas.

Tim doesn't startle, not visibly. But all at once there's a batarang in his hand, the blade gleaming sharp. It takes him a second to register who the intruder actually is before he gives Jason a lingering, suspicious sidelong glance and tucks it away again.
"What IOU?" says Tim. "And how'd you get in here?"
He looks like shit, frankly. There are dark smudges under his eyes, and he's lost weight since Jason's seen him last. From the coffee cups scattered around the desk, it's probably even odds that he's on at least 24 hours without sleep.
"I work in mysterious ways," declares Jason. "By which I mean your window's open. You get kind of careless when you haven't slept, Timbo."

“Baby Bird?” Jason’s voice shifted, softened into something almost fragile, as if he were speaking to a child. Maybe, in his eyes, Tim was exactly that. The familiar nickname—so wrong, so tender—sent a tremor down Tim’s spine. Jason never called him that. Jason never spoke to him with warmth.
Jason hated Tim.
He shut his eyes tight, praying this was just a cruel dream. But then warm hands cupped his face, grounding him. A metallic clatter echoed through the cave, sharp and final. The gun had hit the floor.
“No, no, no—don’t close those blue eyes, Baby Bird. Look at me,” this time Jason’s voice cracked into a plea. Every word trembled with fear, with a need that made Tim’s chest tighten painfully. Tim bit down on a sob, the taste of salt and blood filling his mouth, forcing himself to lift his gaze and meet the toxic green fire of Jason’s eyes once more. He could feel the tremor in Jason’s hands, the way his knees pressed into the cold floor, and it made his own body ache with tension.
