Summary
How is one supposed to act when your friends are picked off one by one? They’re locked up, they leave, they die. Remus can never, will never blame James for that, but it’s difficult when all he wants to do is blame somebody, anybody. And so Remus does what he does best: bottle it up until the bottle breaks.

Remus and James get into a fight, sending Remus on a collision course... literally. But a dicey apparition, a bar fight, and a near-drowning (in a puddle) later, he finds himself in the care of Madam Pomfrey, who is probably the only person who could fix this situation. After a cup of tea, a good cry, and a much needed talk, Remus might be on the way to healing himself, and his friendship with James--some of the only family he has left.

Ice poured down his back, a feeling he hadn’t felt since the time Miri had caught a fever on his watch. The all consuming fear wiped his brain clean of anything logical. The dog, according to Miri, was very nice and liked to be scratched behind the ears, but all Rei saw was glinting, snarling teeth and wide, crazed eyes, ready to take a bite. In reality the dog had not even noticed him, but it didn’t matter. She would kill him, and he had to run.

Ever since that night, Rei has been afraid of dogs, and when the neighbor's dog gets out, the memories come flooding back. His family is there to help him through the fear, and some new feelings come to light (or rather old feelings get confirmed) between Rei and Kazuki.

The question puts me on my back foot. Literally. I jog up to the door after my morning run to find Rocky waiting for me on my side of the house, suited up and ticked off. I rock back on my heel.
“Huh?”
“What you mean ‘huh’, is simple question! Why no mention plants on Hail Mary when almost die of no vitamins?!”
“No bud, I heard you the first time,” I scoff, shaking my head ruefully. He gets under my feet, tapping at my thighs with his claws to annoy me while I toe off my running shoes.
“Hey, quit— quit it! You’ve gotta be confused, the only plant matter on the Hail Mary was the food in my meals, and that’s years gone.”

“Serious,” the man replied. “Like the star,” he clarified, and Remus mentally scratched out 'Serious' and rewrote 'Sirius' in his head.
“The… star?” Marlene asked, her pen hovering over the cup as she hesitated.
“S-I-R-I-U-S,” Remus said. He stocked croissants into the display case, not looking up. “The Dog Star,” he added, “brightest star in the sky, actually. Visible from both hemispheres.” When he looked over, the man– Sirius– seemed surprised, his eyebrows raised as Remus spoke, and when Remus finished, he blinked a few times before smiling lopsidedly.
“Er– yeah,” he breathed a laugh. “That.” There was a baby on his hip. Somehow, it had taken Remus a second glance to notice that.

Or, Remus works as a barista and Sirius comes in every morning with the world's cutest baby, and man, these two just wrote the book on mutual pining, huh?
