Set in the 2010's. Renfield and Dracula are both human. While there are no vampires here, there will be plenty of blood. (Okay, there might be some vampires, but not real ones.)

Always, always did he pull Renfield back before he could lose him. Always did he pull Renfield back with a sort of bristling undertone. Selachian smile, or an exhaustible, unpleasant glower on his face. Nails in his skin. A smack. A strike. A punch. Tearing him open, or kissing him soft, sweet, with that awful, deadly mouth. None of it mattered. None of it had to matter. It all meant the same to Renfield.
The Master would not let him die. So Renfield lived. And if Renfield lived, then that meant Renfield had forgiven himself. And if Renfield could forgive himself, despite everything he'd done, everything he'd done, he would have to be capable of forgiving the Master.
He did forgive the Master. He always did. He always would.
Renfield attempts to establish a boundary or two with his Master. It doesn't go well.

He was alone in the woods, far from the campfire, with a known Killer. A Killer that had personally seen to Dwight’s own demise dozens of times. Logically, he should be terrified. But he found that he wasn’t. If anything, he felt relief. And that was a very confusing thing.
“What are you doing out here?” Dwight breathed.
“Just taking a stroll. Seeing the sights,” Ghost Face drawled, waving his hand in the air.
Dwight turned to face him fully. “Have you always been able to come here?”
“Maybe.” Dwight could hear the smile in his voice. “There’s a scared little bunny rabbit I like to watch sleep.”

Summary
The campfire is by necessity a small and close-knit community. His dislike of Ghostface comes to light pretty quickly, though not the exact reason; anyone who’s seen him offer a Memento Mori knows what a dick he can be. There isn’t a single survivor who wouldn’t want to punch his smug mask at least once. And, well, if they think Dwight feels the same, he’s not going to correct them.
In a way, what ends up happening all cascades from this inconvenient fact.
