He had grown up outside of the territory and was barely five when his Crest first manifested but nearing twelve when his parents had finally explained what it was and what it meant.
What he was responsible for.
Both of his parents had denounced the nobility the second they learned of his mother’s pregnancy. Moved out to the countryside and enjoyed a small wyvern ranch and taught him archery and how to be a lad and a gentleman and a lord without using the words. Cut short and cut away from their love, he wonders if he’ll ever truly be ready.
Marching through the concrete courtyard he felt, not for the first time, dwarfed and alone. The imposing stone buildings topped with spires shot up all around him, and even the trees in the forrest didn’t give such a tight and claustrophobic feeling. He felt as if he were marching to an execution. And it was fine

Golden Deer Route AU told in support conversations, with less war & dying drama and more school/classist drama. Garreg Mach is a fancy boarding school for would-be knights and nobles. At least Dick is smiling. It’s a nice smile, with the type of straight, white teeth that only rich kids have. He’s got perfectly symmetrical dimples and his eyes crinkle at the side.
“It’s nice to finally meet you, Dick.” Jason offers his hand to the older teen and wishes, belatedly, that he hasn’t already changed into his dweeby school uniform. “I’ve heard a lot about you.”
Dick shakes his hand with the perfect amount of strength, not too hard and not too soft. “I wish I could say the same but it seems like I’m a little out of the loop on manor gossip. And I usually go by Richie, actually,” he tacks on.
“You promised.” Bruce stands in the doorway, his confusion shifting to an expression of hurt. Like, actual, honest to god hurt. “Not at home.”
Richie’s head tilts to the side just a notch. “This isn’t my home anymore. I live in Blud now.”

Summary
Bruce doesn’t often think about the nascent pack bond between him and Tim.
It’s just...there, as it has been for a while now, and when he thinks too hard about it he remembers that it scares him.
He notices when it snaps.
He’s in the manor when it happens, a cup of coffee in his hands as he stretches his legs on his way back to his office. He’s not thinking about anything important, absently running through the quarterly reports in his head for the meeting he has in the next hour.
The bond, a tiny shadow of a presence in the back of his mind, dissolves into hollowness.
