‘Is that what you think?’ Connie says, tone much more dangerous. It’s lower now, and you’d think that’d make her sound like Roy, but it doesn’t. It’s still got that musical quality of someone who’s been doing this for twenty years. Even backstage, if she’s in her makeup she’s Connie. ‘You really think you have what it takes to do what I do?’
‘Course I could.’
‘Alright then,’ she says. ‘Sit.’

this was such a weird (positive) experience to read cause on the one hand ouughhhh my god connie ma'am please do that to me, i'm blushing so hard rn, but on the other hand uh.
hm.
gotta chew on that one a bit. thought most of the big gender thoughts were behind me but something here resonated with me in a way i didn't expect it to. much to contemplate.
