Summary
To say that he runs to his car would be incorrect, as he is a Lan, and running is both undignified and unnecessary unless in immediate danger. Nor does he slam his key into the ignition, or aggressively swerve around the cars on the freeway, or have a mild panic attack at the fact he is picking A-Yuan up late from school for the first time ever.
He comes close, though.
By the time he arrives, it’s 4:35PM, and he has imagined about fifty different worse-case scenarios. The door is partly open when he gets to it, a messy label of 104B—Art Room scrawled with chalk on a placard next to the faded wood. As he opens it fully, he expects to see a wailing, terrified child, or perhaps a scene of utter misery and betrayal.
What he finds is his son, hands covered in paint, being sung to by a beautiful, dark-haired stranger.
“Ducks live in the pond, yellow ducks, happy ducks!”
Lan Wangji stops in his tracks.

Wei Ying felt the word seduce rattle around him like the echo of a bell. Seduce Hanguang Jun? He wouldn’t dare.
But Lan Zhan seems oddly invested in this romance storyline. His acting is far too believable. But it’s only pretend, right?

Summary
The opportunity arose on an inconsequential Friday evening in the middle of a particularly warm spring.
Lan Zhan had a certain reputation amongst the queer community of his university— a fantastic lay people only get to experience once. It's been a not-so-silent understanding between all of his previous partners that it was well worth the heartbreak of not getting another chance. As bad as it felt to admit, Lan Zhan did not care what his partners thought. He was there for two reasons only.
Reason number one: to practice becoming the best lover for Wei Ying.
Reason number two: to get off as much as possible to avoid claiming Wei Ying randomly in public.
See, Lan Zhan had a problem. He was madly, desperately, head over heels in love with his best friend, Wei Ying. Normally, this wouldn't be a problem. Anyone with eyes could see that Wei Ying was also madly, desperately, head over heels in love with Lan Zhan.
The problem was that, for some unknown reason, Wei Ying was convinced that he was straight.

He’d stopped chasing ghosts. He’d stopped hearing phantom songs and no longer woke to lingering scents. He remembered how to smile and flirt and feel attracted to people again. It wasn’t like before. He hadn’t expected it to be. He’d been struck by lightning with his first kiss, so how could anything else compare? These are starting to look like troubling times, he supposes, considering the rising conflict with the Wen clan, but he has learned very well lately that Wei Wuxian is a highly accomplished and skilled cultivator – no matter how much Wei Wuxian likes to present himself like an easy-going, uncultured, almost unmannered youngster who plays pranks on Lan Wangji and bothers him with a million things. But oh, all those little things with which he nags Lan Wangji… maybe they do actually impress him.

If Wei Wuxian sneaks into the Cloud Recesses to see Lan Wangji, that's his business. If, upon seeing Lan Wangji, his teeth get itchy and his blood gets hot, that's also his business.
And if he happens to, say, pounce on Lan Wangji upon learning that the latter had not only taken his flower on Phoenix Mountain but preserved and kept it in his sleeve all this time—well, who's going to stop him? ...Certainly not Hanguang-jun!
The whole time, Lan Wangji sat there like a statue.
A heady rush of heat overwhelmed Wei Wuxian as he admired the picture before him. A beauty on his knees, a length of dark cloth laying gently over his eyes, those flushed ears peeking out from behind strands of faintly tousled hair.
His slim wrists were secured with the light-coloured forehead ribbon that seemed to blend in with his sleeves, which had fallen back down. With the way Lan Wangji had clasped his fingers together, one almost couldn’t tell how bound up he really was.

He is surprised to be alive. He cannot remember why he should be surprised, but he is all the same. His body hurts. Like it did after Nightless City. Like it did the first time he crawled out of the Burial Mounds. Like it did when he was thrown into the Burial Mounds and hit the unforgiving ground, bones cracked, organs punctured, heart broken.
Something rustles near him, but he is unable to turn and look. He cannot move or feel his limbs, but there is still a deep, throbbing, hurt that permeates his very being. And all he can think is I am so tired. I am so very tired.

Wei Wuxian finds out about Lan Wangji’s punishment before the first siege of the Burial Mounds. He arrives at the Cloud Recesses stricken with grief, still covered in blood from Nightless City, and kidnaps Lan Wangji without any plan. This spurs misunderstandings, earlier revelations and confessions, a rescue, and a journey that will take them all the way to Koi Tower. Will taking Lan Wangji to the Burial Mounds with Wei Wuxian save the remaining Wens, or will it only hasten their demise?
