    This story has an amazingly good character development arc for Jim Kirk, taking him from immature jerk to self-aware maturity. Jim is forced to grow up and Bones finally gets someone who is worthy of him. It also has a great Captain Pike and Lt. Uhura.

    Together they accidentally stir up evils that should have stayed sleeping and must work hard (and fast) to save the world from ending in blood and war.

    (And this being Jim and Bones, it's also a romance.)

    Bookmarker's Notes

    This has an excellent down and out, vulnerable, mysterious Bones, and an excellent, perpetually broke and badass Jim bound and determined to rescue and bed him. The story is set in the present day, no Enterprise in sight. They are still in character. The supernatural plot is centered on the secret even Bones' didn't know he had, and the rescue that endangers them both. Spock and Uhura are in here as well, and just as interesting as Bones and Jim. For me, Bones is the best.
