Neil was at a bus station, sprawled on the benches and staring at the ceiling, zoning out to the poorly tuned radio station and ignoring his throbbing body, battered and bruised, when he heard a voice inside him say I don’t like this song.
Neil closed his eyes. “You don’t like anything,” he replied, but Andrew didn’t think Neil was real, so he never stuck around when Neil talked back.

The boy in the other car looked at Andrew as if he could feel his gaze through the dirty windshield. The setting sun illuminated his pretty blue eyes in the two seconds they were locked with Andrew’s. The world felt small and sharp, just the two of them, just for two seconds.
Andrew lifted his right hand and saluted the boy, tapping his temple with two fingers, as his left hand reached up and jerked the wheel.
