“Maybe we gotta give Cassie and Ethan another point of connection,” Fezco says, his sudden recommendation paired with a shrug. “Maybe Cassie’s roommate could date Ethan’s roommate.”
She squints at him as she tries to understand what he was hinting at - maybe one of Cassie’s roommates could date Ethan’s roommate. Cassie’s roommate. Not Maddy, and he had never met Bobbi. The shitty champagne and vodka is definitely making her think crazy things, but she can’t help but linger on his proposal.
Was he talking about her?
“Did you just suggest that we should pretend to date each other?” Lexi asks, in a tone that’s surprisingly curious and open. “Like, to push Cassie and Ethan together?”
“I mean – told ya it was a stupid idea.” Now Fezco is the one who won’t make eye contact.
“No, I don’t hate it.” Lexi let her fingers brush against her bare knees. “I kind of love it.”

Summary

She noticed the way his eyes lingered on her sometimes; how his gaze would drift down to her chest when she wore her tightest cardigan, the way he’d lay his palm on her lower back when they’d walk through a door. And he called her shorty – an endearment that implied he found her physically attractive, at the very least.
Surely he could tell how much she wanted him, though?

Ash lightly punches Fez’s arm. “See, all Playboy would have had to do is offer to introduce you to Lollipop, over there. You’da folded like a cheap suit.”

“And everybody likes you.” She adds after a beat.
“What you mean?”
She shrugs.
“Everybody likes you.” She repeats. “Even though you’re the town’s drug dealer, nobody hasn’t any bad thing to say about you. My best friend considers you like family. And we both know how Rue’s a hardcore misanthropist.”
Fezco laughs then and nods. Lexi smiles back at him, she likes his smile. How his eyebrows raise on his forehead, and his tongue picks against his teeth.
“She loves you too.
- Because we’ve known each other since pre-school. If she’d got to know me now, I don’t think she’d like me.
- I like you.”
Lexi’s smile slowly fades away as she registers what he just said. His eyes flicker to her lips, and for a second, she thinks he’s gonna kiss her.------------------------------------------------------------------
