Summary
Ryland Grace woke up 11.9 light years away from Earth not knowing who he was. With time, the memories came back, but he still doesn’t remember it all.
Of course now, as the Hail Mary is en route for Erid, Grace is struck with memories of what can only be depicted as deep-seated emotional trauma.
And of course that happens after he’d managed to trigger a localized spacetime geometry failure in the middle of interstellar deceleration during which a literal submarine crashed into them, leaving Rocky and Grace to solve yet another doomsday scenario.
Never a dull moment in intergalactic space.

Before he could stop himself, he crashed into a person who was going out at the same time...
He then realized, in the collision, he had spilled his coffee all over this stranger. Oh no.“Gah-what the fuck, man?!” the stranger exclaimed in a deep, gravelly tone.
“Oh my gosh oh my gosh I’m so sorry-” Grace stepped back, barely keeping his balance, then started digging in his bag. “I-I think i have napkins o-or something.” As he pulled the napkins out and pressed them to the stranger’s chest, he noticed the guy’s lanyard.

Ryland Grace is a middle school science teacher, with very little life outside of being such. Which doesn't really bother him. That is, until he meets the new English teacher, Simon Butcher. The two are so very different, like a hot black coffee and a caramel frappacino. But, is that really such a bad thing? As the too get closer, maybe their differences aren't as pronounced as they'd thought...

Summary
Gracie was perfectly fine and happy with his life in Erid. He really was.
Simon just wanted to live. What would he be willing to do to get it? Simon meets a strange, unusually clean man who tells him he's safe with him. It has to be some kind of trick, a twisted game he doesn't yet understand. But he's willing to play to get what he wants.
