And Marinette kept protesting and pulling and whining and being generally a pest the whole time, until Chloé threw her through the doors to the changing rooms and slammed her into a locker, and put one hand on either side of the baker girl’s head.
“Marinette Dupain-Cheng,” she said, adding as much dripping contempt to her tone as she could muster. But honestly, she was still angry, and it just didn’t come off right. Anger wasn’t contempt, it was — anger.
Marinette shrank. She didn’t try to duck under Chloé’s arms, and she didn’t try to kick or push. Like always, she just stood there like a little wet kitten. “... Are you… are you going to stuff me into a locker again?”

Chloé is upset that Lila is stealing her thunder when it comes to bullying Marinette. Desperate to claw back control over the baker girl, she hatches a plan with Marinette to lie straight back at Lila - because the truth obviously isn't working. Summary
After Monarch's defeat, Marinette needs to figure out what to do about the secrets he left her with: which ones to keep, which ones to tell, and when to tell them and whom to if she doesn't keep them. Kagami has to grapple with the reality of her existence as a thing created by Duusu, and with what to think about the outcome of what happened between Marinette and Gabriel. And Zoé has to deal with her lingering feelings towards Marinette, without stepping on anyone's toes - least of all Marinette's.
With a new butterfly holder approaching, the three of them need to figure out the limits of their trust; even more than that, though, they need to learn how to trust themselves. As the akumas get closer and closer to them, they need to navigate not just their relationships with other people, but also their faith in their own abilities - or everything will come crashing down around them.
But Marinette carries another secret, one that only she knows: when Gabriel made the wish, his life wasn't sufficient payment for Nathalie's. And the black wound on her foot is an always-growing reminder that even trust can likely not solve everything...

Marinette sighed. “It’s not her I believe. I just… I don’t think she could manage all… this if it was fake. And besides… me, her emergency contact? That’s too bizarre to be a lie.” Even more than that, it was too bizarre to be true. So what could Lila possibly hope to achieve?
“I’m not sure I agree with you,” said Alya. “But I’m not gonna let you go this alone. And I’m pulling you away if I smell anything cooking.”
The thing was, Marinette wasn’t sure she agreed with herself. Nothing made sense. Even just knowing more would help settle the tumult in her brain, which felt like it had been speeding up almost imperceptibly for every door she’d passed through since the balcony.

Adrien shrugged, some of the brightness in his eyes fading a bit. "My father tries to make sure I never have to want for anything."
"Do you not like it?"
He shrugged again. "It's pretty cool, but what’s the point if there's no one to share any of it with?"
She took another look around. With that context the room felt positively cavernous.
“Sounds lonely.”
He ducked into her line of sight, a smile stretched across his face. “I don’t have to be lonely today. You’re here.”
She blushed, and offered him a shy smile.
