Summary
Henry’s life was supposed to be simple - defined by the heat of the Skalitz forge. Then, invaders turned his world to ash. Fuelled by vengeance, he chased his parents' killers to death’s door, collapsing into the freezing mud.
But death refused him. A dark bargain offered a way to defy the grave, and Henry took it with his final breath, blind to the cost. When the fever broke, he was no longer human. Curse with bloodshot eyes, fangs, and a ravenous hunger for blood, he had to learn to wear a human mask just to survive.
Now, burying his predatory nature beneath a guardsman’s iron, Henry hides in Rattay, under the careful eye of the Lord Hans Capon.
On the surface, Hans is everything Henry detests - an arrogant noble behind velvet and sharp insults. Yet, forced proximity forces Henry’s dark instincts to see through the armor. Behind the haughty laughter lies a soul as isolated and broken as his own.
Surrounded by the brutality of war and trapped by his own deep flaws, Henry soon realizes revenge is no longer the most volatile thing keeping his dead heart alive.

Summary
His men, his horse, his weapons, his armor; all gone. He thought that there was something to him beyond all that, some undeniable part of him that told the world he was Sir Hans Capon of Pirkstein, but it was nothing but a yellow crest and a sword at his hip.

Hans Capon is literally fine, and he definitely didn't leave anything of importance behind in Troskowitz.

Summary
“I don’t know,” Hans mumbled. “Is there anything you’re not comfortable with?”
Henry had a hard time picturing ever being uncomfortable around Hans. Out of all the emotions he’d suffered since meeting him, that wasn’t one of them.
“I don’t think so. And you?”
Hans was silent for a moment, eyes fixed on the windshield. And then, just as Henry was about to return his own gaze to the scenery, Hans spoke in a low voice, barely louder than the music coming off the speakers.
“Can I kiss you?”
“Yes,” Henry said, the word escaping him before his heart had even had time to jump.
Hans finally glanced at him then, a small smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. His freckles popped against the rosy of his cheeks. Henry had always liked the color his skin took on sunny days.
Then, Hans grinned. “Eager, are you?”
And there it was. No, Henry couldn’t picture being uncomfortable around Hans. Exasperated, however, he had no problems imagining.

Summary
“An alpha’s scent would do the trick. It’s some very effective—if traditional—territorial practice to keep others away once they’re married. That means if I’m well and thoroughly marked, I’ll only smell like an alpha. Problem solved! Now, just to find Captain Bernard–”
“Hans!”
“Henry,” Hans replied, laughing.
