    Immediately, the smile dropped from Clark’s face as he hurriedly closed the distance between them and rested a hand on his shoulder before asking with a worried voice, "kid, what happened? Bruce-"

    "He kicked me out."

     

    Or: my take on Dick being fired from being Robin and having to navigate a new life, sixteen and alone – or so he thought.

    When Dick reached the black gate connected to the enormous stone wall he punched Alfred's key code in. As a teenager, when Bruce kicked him out of his home, Alfred had been the one to invite him back in and lend him a code that even the big bad bat wouldn't dare revoke.

    His brothers would be there tonight before patrol. Alfred had declared tonight a family dinner. The secret laid heavy on his tongue caged behind his teeth. This would be their last family dinner. Or at least, the last time any of them would see Dick alive.

    Dick was born a kryptonian and an older brother to Kal-El, and now, 34 years after the destruction of Krypton, he has to face his younger brother. Except he's no longer the younger one.
