Summary
After joking about how the universe seems to orchestrate ridiculous, telenovela-style romantic tropes for other people, firefighters Buck and Eddie suddenly find themselves trapped in their very own rom-com. From slipping into highly compromising positions on a wet floor to getting stuck in a dim supply closet, cosmic coincidences start piling up around them.

Summary
They both smiled, a sad, knowing smile, and moved into a hug.
Buck fitted himself into the crook of Eddie's neck, breathing him in one last time. As he held on, his smile faded completely. He started to blink faster than normal, fighting a losing battle against the tears welling in his eyes.
As they began to pull apart, a surge of pure panic shot through Buck. He couldn't let go. Not like this. His hand tightened on Eddie's forearm while his other hand moved on its own, sliding up to cup the back of Eddie’s neck. Suddenly, without even understanding why he was doing it, he closed the small distance between them and pressed his lips against Eddie's.
It was a kiss born of pure desperation. And for a millisecond he felt Eddie kiss back. Then, just as quickly, it was over.or

Summary
“Bill, can you tell me your location? I want to send some people to make sure you’re okay. You don’t sound okay.”
“I’m not. But he’s worse off than I am. Shouldn’t you want to help him instead? Wouldn’t you want to know where he is?”
“Who is he?”
“That firefighter I buried underground.”

Summary
"Can I try something?"
"Yeah, sure, g-go ahead, man." Buck cringes, and even that is adorable.
"Close your eyes."
"E-Eddie," Buck croaks helplessly.
"I'm not gonna bite, Buckley. Trust me?"
Buck closes his eyes. Squeezes them shut, really.
Eddie tugs his face into the curve of Buck's shoulder before he can lose the nerve, Buck's pulse fluttering wildly against the tip of Eddie's nose.
Buck is struggling after the events in New Mexico. Eddie decides to move in with him about it.

Summary
Southern California is where Buck has spent the most time since leaving Pennsylvania. Of all the places he’s lived and worked over the last few years, this place is where he decided to stay. It’s why he picked LAFD: to put down some roots. It’s warm, has the ocean, and it’s the opposite coast of his parents. So if he’s going to be here for a while, he thinks he’ll need to make an effort to let people in.

Summary
“LA Dispatch to Engine 118, be advised–”
Eddie’s head snaps up.
Maddie. Dispatch cadence – clean, clipped, controlled.
Chimney’s eyes flick to the radio, then to Eddie, before he answers.
“118, go ahead.”
Maddie continues, steady as a metronome.
“We have a reported MVC on the Fletcher Drive Bridge, repeat: multiple-vehicle collision. Units en route have visual confirmation of two cars at the scene.”
Eddie’s pulse stutters. He leans forward without meaning to, the seatbelt tugging tight across his chest.
Maddie keeps going, all professionalism, no tremor, until she hits the words that break.
“One of the vehicles is… a Jeep that went over the railing into the water.”

Summary
“I’ll do it,” Eddie repeats, looking at Buck in one of those silent conversation ways again, but Buck actually can’t figure out what he’s trying to say this time. It messes with his brain, until Eddie speaks again, “I’ll pretend to only be a little offended none of you have thought to ask me before, but Buck, I’ve fixed a lot of cars. I can look at yours.”
(or, the check engine light comes on in Buck's Jeep, Eddie volunteers to fix it and carpool with him in the meantime, and it all breaks down from there, literally and metaphorically)
