The push, the pull, the rush of their harried days could certainly be the thing that kept Ilya attached to this thing of theirs. Shane’s already admitted that it hasn’t been about the rebellion of it all for him for a while - but Ilya’s made no such disclosures. A burning love confession isn’t exactly as electrifying as the thrill of the chase, after all - and - great, Shane realizes that Ilya came out of the shower to Shane doing the fucking dishes like some bland housewife instead of a sexy Casanova waiting to pounce him for what should be a manically sex-crazed weekend, or whatever.
Shane’s apt brain quickly concocts a secondary plan.

Shane Hollander is just trying to survive NYU biochemistry, hockey practice, and the graveyard shift at 7-Eleven. He's too exhausted to notice that his new regular customer is Russian mafia, or that Ilya's interest in him goes beyond terrible coffee and cookies.

But it was the other guy that Roger couldn’t take his eyes from, not even while he helped the others, mixed their smoothies and plated their sandwiches. Maybe because he stood out against the others: slightly shorter and less tanned, with a bit of a stubble. Maybe because he was the only one that took his sunglasses off.
The guy was not the most attractive man Roger has ever seen or flirted or even slept with...but there was something about him, that he couldn’t put his finger on but made his stomach tingle as he watched him staring at the display of sandwiches and wraps in Roger’s counter.
