Geralt's muscles heave backwards, flinging him down against the bed. He tries to struggle upwards but it feels like he’s been buried beneath a mountain. Every inch of him is pressed completely still. His eyes close, and he’s left in the dark with nothing but his racing heart for company. He’s not tired, he’s never been less tired. But the curse wants him to sleep, it seems. It’ll force him to lie here until he does. How much of his life will it start to control, now that he’s declared war against it? Now that he knows it’s lurking in his bones, now that it doesn’t have to be subtle?

So what if Harrow had laughed as the two of them did Jagerbombs at Palamedes’ Halloween party, the glint of her fake fangs flashing invitingly in the orange party lights? They hated each other. The two of them would both work in the mall until one of them inevitably strangled the other with her bare hands, and Gideon wouldn’t have it any other way.

A 9-part serial novelization of a modded playthrough of Skyrim, Vigilance does not follow the set timeline or standard of the original Skyrim games and makes a few minor lore adjustments for both readability and plot. You may consider this series an experiment in the vein of approaching a fanfic in the manner of bildungsroman - rather than a snapshot in time or focusing on only one particular "quest", Vigilance aims to tell a long-form story following Eres from an ordinary young half-elf just trying to find her way to becoming the prophesied Last Dragonborn of legend - and perhaps a bit more along the way.
