“If you could bottle up a star, which one would you choose?” Grace suddenly blurted out.
He grimaced. Thankfully for him, Simon was as awkward as him when it came to talking, and the only thing he got was a raised eyebrow.
“That’s a stupid question."
“Indulge me on that one, please."
“I don’t know…" Simon shrugged, "As long as it's a star, I'd get it before it disappeared. I have no preferences."
Or: Simon misses the stars, the one from his own universe. Even if they're here, on the Hail Mary, it doesn't feel the same somehow. They look too far away to fully grasp in his hands. Hearing this, Grace tries to gift him something in an attempt to cheer him up.

It was perfectly smooth, almost polished, a dark red-bronze color that reminded me of old pennies. No markings, no lights, no handholds. Just... a sealed tube. "Reading a steady 363 degrees Kelvin on the surface, but there's a hot spot at one end - around 423. Something's active in there. Maybe the propulsion system? Except there's no propulsion system..."
"Life support," Rocky trilled, his voice dipping into what I recognized as his 'thinking' range. "Eridian 🎶 no doors. Too dangerous. Maybe same. Pressure inside is very high. Door not open until pressure outside matches."
That made a disturbing amount of sense. "So this thing is designed to open in a high-pressure environment. Like deep underwater? But it was in space. That's the opposite of high pressure."

“Thank you, Mary,” he responds automatically.
Exciting news: they’re almost at Erid! Hours away, actually! He’s vibrating with excitement, as much as you can with your ribs sticking out through your skin. But screw that noise! The journey is almost over! Beginning of an end, end of a beginning, baby! His entire journey has culminated into this one event: making contact with an alien species. Whether that was through astrophage, taumeoba, or Eridians. Not even being sick and hungry could ruin this. He doesn’t know if the nausea is from the nerves or not.
Or: after saving two stars and returning to Erid, Grace and Rocky must face their most daunting challenge yet: having uncomfortable conversations.

Life on Erid is good. In fact, Grace might even go as far as to say it's the best. Right up until the Eridians freak him out by having this whole big meeting about a signal coming from a moon somewhere? And Rocky volunteers them to go check it out? Rocky, not cool, man.
During the two year mission to go check out this weird moon, the signals keep changing, until they arrive and find a Really Weird Guy. And, man, he has some problems. But Rocky and Grace are here to help! Falling in love was not on the menu, but that's never stopped anyone.
